I had a conversation with some colleagues lately. It spurred me to write down my tot in this post.
Have you heard of "人不可貌相"? How often do we judge people by their looks? The answer is almost all the time. Don't you agree?
I met my colleague's wife for the 1st time and it was over a coffee session. That was enough for her to have an impression of me. A negative impression and I was surprised. She told my colleague that she do not like me, dun know why, just a feeling.
Haha...I tot I have not given ppl such impression since teenage days. I always tot that I'm the friendly and easy to talk to kind. I dared not say I have realli good "人缘", but I'm definitely not the kind that ppl or frens will dislike one. Hahaha...thick-skinned u might say.
I must agree that when I dun smile, I appear to be not amicable and sometimes proud. But that was in the past. I mean you dun expect me to be smiling at strangers all the time right, I will be branded as mad if I do so.
I'm not good at expressing myself, maybe it was contributed by my childhood. I'm the 3rd child in the family of all girls. Think when I was born, my mum was pretty disappointed cos another girl again. So she packed me up and got me a nanny. I was with the nanny most of time when I was still very young. I grew up an introvert.
During relatives gathering, I will be at a corner while all my cousins and my siblings were be having fun. I dared not speak up to anyone. I will be alone, watching them play.
However, as time went by, when I started schooling, things got slightly better as I met more frens in school. Still I'm the quiet and shy type. I was in a all girls' school throughout 11 years of education. My family was abit conservative and I wasn't given alot of freedom.
I wasn't good at handling people and often gave people the impression of being a snob. Seriously, I'm not such person. Anyway, that was in the past. Ever since, I came out to work, my "人际关系" improved quite alot. I'm no longer the shy and quiet person. Still, I will not take the initiative to speak to a total stranger. It's just my character.
Thus, upon my colleague's wife making such a remark, I was realli puzzled and find it laughable. I hardly know her and I think we didnt converse more than 10 sentences.
I think the weakness of the human beings is that we judge someone too much by their appearance. Obviously I'm guilty of that as well. That's human nature.
Whatever it is, no matter to who, just remember if you want to be respected, you need to know how to repect others in the 1st place. Though the world is so big, you never know when your paths will meet in future.
